If you are looking for a relaxing tropical holiday away from large-scale tourism, on one of the most picturesque naturally beautiful Caribbean Islands, then Grenada is for you. Known as the Spice Island of the Caribbean, the scents of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, tumeric, cocoa and ginger waft in the air. It’s a fact that there are more spices here per square mile than any other place on the planet. The island lies at the southernmost tip of the Windward Islands. With over 40 picturesque white sand beaches with turquoise waters, exciting aquatic sports, bountiful natural preserves, cultural historical sites and a pleasant year round average climate of 80F.
The Island
At 12 miles wide and 21 miles long Grenada is one of the smaller Caribbean islands. Its volcanic origin has produced a land of great beauty, with environmental variety ranging from mountainous rainforests to dry lowlands and coastal mangroves. Springs streams and waterfalls are plentiful and crater lakes in the mountains mirror sky. The capital St Georges, built on a hill overlooking the harbour is one of the most picturesque of all the Caribbean. It boasts a historical colonial fort with superb views. The small population of 100,000 are the most friendly and laid back you are likely to find anywhere.

Getting There
British Airways fly direct to Grenada on Tuesdays, XL Airways flies direct to Grenada on Thursdays and Sundays and indirect on the return. Virgin fly to Grenada on Tuesdays or Thursdays via Tobago, British Midland offers flights from Manchester to Grenada via Barbados. Direct flights take just 9hours.

Rain Forests, Waterfalls & Volcano
The island is covered with a lush tropical rainforest full of exotic flora and fauna and thriving wildlife. A trip to Grand Etang Forest Reserve is easy and from here you can take a short walk and admire one of the many impressive waterfalls, or tuck the plunge with a quick dip in the pure fresh mountain waters. At the peak of the island is an extinct volcano, which has now formed a crater lake. The views from here are stunning and you are likely to catch a glimpse of the native monkeys playing in the trees amongst colourful bird-life. |

| Evening entertainment is fairly low-key, but most hotels offer guests steel bands, plus folk music, drama and cultural performances. There are a number of bars and clubs, which are easily accessible by taxi. |

| A wide variety of excellent restaurants exist offering Creole and Caribbean cuisine in addition to French, Italian, German and Chinese. Grenada is also home to a number of world-class restaurants. A personal favourite is the Aquarium restaurant located on a secluded bay where you can enjoy lunch or dinner in the dramatic rock-side restaurant surrounding by local artwork. Or dine on the beach with distant views of the pretty islands capital St George. For those self-catering there are many supermarkets and the St Georges market offers an impressive selection of local fruit, vegetable and spices. |

Ten Must Do’s In Grenada
The Grenada Carnival in August – A month of cultural presentations calypso shows & steel bands, for the best action visit the capital St Georges.
Fish Friday – Every Friday night the town of Gouyave welcomes locals & visitors with a display of their freshly caught and cooked seafood, fused with cultural performances and dancing.
River Tubing – Following a beautiful drive into the rainforest or along the coastline, you will start on thrilling ride down the river, accompanied by guides gently spinning and swirling in the currents admiring the beauty of the scenery and wildlife.
Hiking – You don’t have to be fit to hike in the Grand Etang range. The forest reserve provides guides for 15-minute strolls to more rigorous hikes of several hours.
Mountain Biking – Enjoy a half or full day excursion biking on the islands best off road trails, through shallow streams and along beaches allowing time for photographic picture breaks.
Dolphin & Whale Watching – About 15 species of whales can be seen in the waters surrounding Grenada with a sighting rate of 97% between December & April. Among those seen are the Sperm, Humpback, Long & Short Fin Padded whales and Dolphins.
Snorkelling – Grenada has at least 30 dive sites offering miles of unspoilt reef formations teeming with a variety of marine life. Morays, Angelfish, Octopuses and sea horses are just some of the colourful inhabitants.
Diving – Grenada has some excellent dive sites and has many professional is home to the largest shipwreck in the Caribbean. The 600ft cruise ship sunk in 1961 and the decks are accessible where you can observe Eagle Rays, shoals of Barracuda and Jack fish.
Waterfalls - There are so many beautiful waterfalls, which can be explored. The most picturesque is the Seven Sisters Falls, which consisting of a series of 7 falls reached by a 30-minute trek in beautiful surroundings.
Historic Forts – Fort George overlooks the harbour and was built in 1706. It is now an excellent vantage point for sightseers and offers spectacular views of St George’s tile-roof architecture and picturesque skyline. |
